What Parkway Improved To Defeat Bastrop In 55-28 Win

If you just looked at the 79-56 score of last year’s Parkway-Bastrop game, you might have thought they were playing basketball. A repeat of last year’s high scoring game looked almost imamate with fast pace scoring. However, Parkway didn’t feel like having another shootout and their defense clamped down in the second half.

C.J. Morgan and Juwon Johnson were outstanding for Parkway on the defensive end. Juwon Johnson had a pivotal block punt and returned it for a 20-yard touchdown that swung the momentum to Parkway. Johnson also landed a huge hit that was Sports Center Top 10 worthy. An entire weekend has passed and students/faculty are still talking about the monstrous tackle almost as much as Bastrop’s running back is still feeling it.  C.J. Morgan had a goal line interception and was an overall pillar for the Panthers defense despite dealing with ankle issues. Hunter Huckaby always had another strong performance and led the team in tackles with 13. Parkway only let Bastrop score 8 points in the second half and sacked the quarterback 4 times. The Rams high powered offense exploited Parkways lockdown secondary early, however after the Panthers settled down they held them to just 274-yards of passing.

Offensively, Parkway was firing on all cylinders. Parkway had 599 total yards of offense and had four different players score rushing touchdowns. William McKnight was fantastic, rushing for 167-yards, 74 receiving yards, and 3TDs.  So far, no defense has had an answer for McKnight as he is just having a terrific season. Keondre Wudtee struggled in the 2nd quarter and threw 12 straight incompletions but allover had a great performance. Wudtee showed he has speed to match his howitzer like arm and had a 43-yard scramble for a touchdown. Overall, had one of his best performances all season – 204-yards passing and 2 Passing TD, 72-yards rushing and 1 rushing TD.

Parkway’s young team is looking more polished after every game. They look to take win their Homecoming game against Booker T Washington High
School this Friday at Preston Crownover Stadium.
