Calvary’s Cavaliers Demanding Attention

-Anna Howell covering Calvary for JAWS.

Jerry Barker Stadium was packed full during the Calvary Cavaliers’ first official game of the 2014 season. This past Thursday night marked a big win for the Cavaliers, beating the 5A state runner-up Parkway.

Intense is an understatement when describing the atmosphere of the showdown; both Parkway’s Murder Section and Calvary’s Kingdom were loud and proud. At many points in the game anyone could have taken the win-it was not over until the clock reached zero. Much respect is due to Calvary’s defense; they really stepped up to the plate. Not to be forgotten, the strong offensive squad performed amazingly as usual, scoring 46 points compared to Parkway’s 27.

Parkway is still to be commended, putting up quite a fight, and of course defeating the Cavaliers in 2013. Last year’s game, along with the results of the State Championship games(Calvary is the Division III State Champion), fed the rivalry and anticipation leading up to this great competition. Hard work is evident by the level of discipline and athleticism displayed by both teams, not to mention talent.

Next up for the Cavaliers is the Midland Christian Mustangs, then the Byrd Yellow Jackets- games that will not disappoint. Once again Calvary Baptist Academy is facing a tough schedule before district. Hopefully this will prepare them for another state ring.

The camaraderie and brotherhood of the boys is shown on the field, this aiding in their victories. The team is one under Christ, to Him glory is given. The journey for the Cavaliers has just begun
