It’s always a good day to be a Jacket

It’s no doubt that students are proud to be a Jacket at C. E. Byrd High School- especially after the Yellow Jackets 42-13 win last Thursday against Calvary in addition to  Byrd’s new state and national rankings-second best in the state and sixty-eighth in the nation. Student’s excitement  has been stirring in the halls ever since the massive Yellow Jacket success during  Battle on the Border against Eldorado and keeps growing as Byrd’s current record of 3-0 continues to improve- and if this Friday’s game against Mansfield at Lee Hedges Stadium is any like the last, Byrd is soon to be 4-0.

With its faster defense and an extremely impressive offense, it is no wonder Byrd’s team is doing so well. Last weeks game had many impressive plays including those executed by  running back #10 Dominic Haggerty, a current Times Player of the Week nominee’s, four touchdowns, including an 85-yard kickoff return to start the second half with a  28-7 lead that only increased.

In the fourth quarter, Byrd’s defense forced two incompletions from the Byrd 31-yard line, but Haggerty ultimately scored the game away with a 69-yard touchdown sprint on the next play, giving Byrd a 35-13 edge. Haggerty finished the game off  with 134 rushing yards and a kickoff return for a score for Byrd.

Other impressive players include fullback Tray Allen, #4, addition of 70 yards, running back Demondrick Wells, #1,  gain of 56 yards, and quarterback Tyler Howard added 27 rushing yards.
Although Byrd’s new rankings and successful game did boost morale, Students at Byrd are proud of our football players everyday of the week and it shows by the dozens of hand painted banners scatted around the stairwells at Byrd, the volume of our student section, and the on-going support for both  Byrd’s  academics and athletics.

Come join on to this feeling of school pride and support our boys this week as they take on Mansfield this Friday at 7PM at Lee Hedges Stadium and be sure to tune into Jaws over the weekend for game recaps and photos!
