Despite the crackles of lightning...
and rain during
last Friday’s Jamboree game, nothing was
louder than the cheers of the students of the
“Hive”, Byrd High School’s
student section who remained in the stands despite the bad weather.
The Jackets took on the Huntington Raiders last Friday and won the first JV game- 21-0, before the Varsity game was canceled due to
bad weather around 8:30. Although the Jamboree offers teams a chance to
finalize players positions, Byrd’s current head coach, Mike Suggs, who led Byrd
to the Division 1 Select state title game last season, says
“Our players are chomping at the bit to get out there and get some game
action, but it is what it is. We can’t control Mother Nature. We’ll get in the
meeting rooms and get ready for next week against Bastrop. I hate it for these
kids, though. To get right to the point of taking the field, then not get the
chance to go play is frustrating, but we’ll manage.”
The Jackets travel to Zachary this Friday and
as many students captioned it through social media, “RAIN OR SHINE, THE HIVE IS ALIVE!”
