-Jaylin Goree with the story on Captain Shreve Gators for JAWS.
3 N O!
Last week was a great one for the Gators! Our homecoming week was a success and everyone was excited to learn that Jennifer Pickens was named the 2014 Homecoming Queen. Big news was all over Captain Shreve!
For the first time since 1996, Captain Shreve's football team is currently undefeated.
Yes, it's just week three but for the Gators, this is a huge deal.
The game against Mansfield was a battle well fought by both teams. The Wolverines came out strong for the first half, leaving Captain Shreve trailing 19-14 with only 51 yards. However, the Gators came in head first at the beginning of the second half.
Marching 66 yards on 16 plays, the Gators got Donavan Banks to the end zone bringing the score to 21-19. Shreve now held the lead and wouldn't let go for the rest of the game.
Even though Shreve took that W, there was never a moment when the Wolverines gave up.
With less than two minutes left on the clock, Mansfield drove to the 9-yard-line but Julian Charles picked off a pass from Latiedrick Pugh at the 2! (Almost had it. Gotta be quicker than that.)
Time expired but the Gators were called for defensive holding away from the play. This gave Mansfield one untimed down from the 18-yard-line. (Still don't believe in second chances?) Pugh was aiming for Jimmie Jones but Taireek Anderson stepped in and picked it off. Running it back for 100 yards (yes, 100 yards), he scores one last time for the Gators. This brought the score to 41-27, giving Captain Shreve another win.
The Gators will be traveling to Dutchtown High School this Friday. Will they return 4-0? I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
