- Savannah Donnelly covering CEByrd for JAWS.
The Byrd High School Yellow Jackets traveled down to Zachary this past Friday and brought the same amount of fans, stamina, and point scoring plays that got canceled in the preseason Jamboree game last week against Huntington.
Senior Jake Wyss (57) opened up the scoring with a field
goal for the Jackets, who were able to keep a 17 point lead against the
Broncos for the first half of the game. Trayveon
Allen (4) and Dominic Haggerty (10) added rushing touchdowns for Byrd, ending
the second quarter with a score of 24-7 as well as an impressive play by Tysen
Hardman (15), consisting of a fake punt that Hardman turned into a touchdown.
However, a scoring shift happened after the Broncos ran the kickoff back, which ultimately gave them momentum to score against the Jacket in the second halves. Byrd managed to pull out a win by running down the clock in the last final minutes, ending the first game this season with a 24-21 win.
