BENTON HEADED TO PLAYOFFS ROUND 2
Being number one in the district was not enough for Benton this week when they took on Belle Chasse in the first round of the playoffs. The Tigers earned their spot in the second round of playoffs with a hard worked win over the Cardinals. The community, parents, teachers, and students all took part in supporting the Benton Tigers last night regardless of the freezing weather. The student section was tightly packed trying to keep warm while cheering on the team throughout the game.
As the first quarter took off Benton’s #30, Tyler Stephens (senior) made the first down. Not long after the first down #9, Shane Cram (senior) made a one yard gain with seven minutes left of the first quarter, #19, Garret Hable (freshman) made a pass to #30 Tyler Stephens for the third down. The first quarter came to an end with neither team scoring.
Not long after the second quarter started the Belle Chasse Cardinals scored a touchdown and field goal placing them in the lead 0-7 against the Tigers. As time advanced, the Tigers scored a touchdown and a field goal by #11, Jordan White (senior) which set the score 7-7. Next, Jordan White made a fourth down and not long after #10, Brayden Hutchinson (senior) received a pass towards the end of the second quarter.
After halftime the Benton Tigers did not slow down the pace and made a first down. #19 Garret Hable made two passes that were received by #30, Tyler Stephens and #8, Dorsavion Williams (junior). As the third quarter came closer to the end the Tigers scored their second touchdown placing the score 14-7. Finalizing the third quarter, #5, TJ Anderson (senior) made a first down with seconds left on the clock and the score at 14-7.
The fourth quarter came fast paced with the Tigers giving it everything they had. Benton’s Jordan White, scored a safety in the beginning that placed the scoreboard at 16-7. Brayden Hutchinson scored a touchdown and Jordan White scored a field goal which put the Tigers with a win of 23-7 against the Cardinals.
