School Record 57 Yard Field Goal Attempt... Did He Make It?

A team is a group of players becoming one. A team works together to accomplish a mission. A team is a family. The North Caddo Rebels are a team, they are a family.

Last Friday night at Jonesboro Hodge High School, our kicker, senior Jhesus Vargas, was told to attempt a 57 yard field goal. With hearing this, Jhesus said he was very nervous and shocked.

In practice he would kick 40 and 50 yard field goals and make them. Then he would attempt a 55 yard field goal and always be short.

Jhesus chose to kick towards the scoreboard from the left side of the field like he always does at practice.
"When I got out there and got all set up, I just stared at the field goal post thinking this is too far, I'll never make it." Said Jhesus.

Thanks to the encouragement of his teammates, Jhesus made the kick. Everyone jumped up and cheered with excitement.
"When I saw the referees hands go up, I was in shock and I was so happy. It was the longest kick I've ever been able to make in a game." Vargas explains.

Jhesus's kick was a Jonesboro Hodge record.

Coach says that Jhesus is, "hard working, he comes to practice and does his kicking. It's good to see him have success."

Jhesus also scored a 22 on his ACT. He's clearing house ready, he plans to attend either LA Tech or NSU to become an engineer. Although if Vargas receives a football scholarship, he says he'll most likely take it.

Vargas seems to have a very bright football and academic career ahead of him.
